THE WINTER EXPEDITION EXPERIENCE
The park closes its roads. That’s exactly when we go.
Every winter, Yellowstone’s interior roads close to regular traffic, and the crowds disappear. The only way in is over-snow — and our custom-built snowcoaches are made for it, carrying small groups deep into the park’s geyser basins while the rest of the world stays home.
An expert naturalist guide travels with you the entire way, reading the landscape for elk, bison, wolves, foxes, and bald eagles, and narrating the geology that built Old Faithful, the Upper Geyser Basin, and West Thumb. When the sun goes down, the telescopes come out. Under some of the darkest skies remaining in the continental United States, you’ll spend your evening tracing planets, star clusters, and the arm of the Milky Way.

Planning Your Winter Expedition
Pick-Up & Departure
Public tours meet at the Teton Science Schools Jackson Campus, 700 Coyote Canyon Road, just outside downtown Jackson — visitor information, restrooms, and free parking on site. Private tours can be picked up directly from hotels and lodging in Jackson, Teton Village, and parts of Wilson.
What to Bring
Layering is everything. Pack a rain jacket, a lightweight puffy or fleece, a warm hat, a sun hat or visor, comfortable hiking shoes, and sunscreen — even in the snow. Yaktrax® traction devices and trekking poles are provided for every guided walk.
The Vehicles
The day portion runs in customized Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans with rooftop hatches for wildlife viewing. Once the road turns to snow, you’ll transfer into a purpose-built snowcoach.
Cancellation Policy
A 10% deposit confirms your reservation. Cancel 60+ days out for a full refund. Inside 60 days, cancellations 48+ hours before departure receive a 90% refund; inside 48 hours is non-refundable.
